Elizabeth had a patient who quickly had to get into emergency surgery. The patient had with her, her four daughters, and a medical history that would break anyone's heart. That didn't stop Elizabeth from doing what she does every day, and showing true empathy for both the patient and her family.
Elizabeth is able to keep a well-mannered composure, and still be as professional as she needs to be. From a quick set up of a NG tube, to medication to make the patient comfortable, to relaying messages to the OR, and keeping the family 100% informed, calm, and updated every step of the way. The patient and her family were soon sent to OR, and Elizabeth and I both prayed for her.
Later that evening Elizabeth and I had a short visit with the patient in ICU, and we were able to see the smile on the daughter's face to know that Elizabeth really cared. I am saddened to learn today 10 days later, her patient passed away, and now is at peace. I am honored to have Elizabeth as a ER nurse, here at NMC, and makes me proud as an employee that, this particular patient's time here, was with her.
Working with Elizabeth has taught me that nothing is beneath me, and I can and will peruse my dreams. I have recently applied to nursing school and I hope one day I am half the nurse she is.
Elizabeth has a heart of gold, and knowledge that you could not believe. She is dedicated to her patients every needs, and always goes above and beyond. Every patient is treated with respect, compassion, and excellent care. Newton Medical Center is very lucky to have her as an employee.
