Sheila is a transformational leader. While overseeing the unit, she truly gets to know patients and their families. For example, she once made sure a patient's cat was fed at home while their owner was in the CICU. Sheila is great at communicating with staff and keeps everyone up to date. She goes above and beyond during Nurses Week by bringing in gifts, prizes, and food - even on the night shift. Her enthusiasm and appreciation make our staff want to work harder for her. Sheila is always willing to trial new ideas based on the most recent research-based studies. To decrease the incidence of CAUTI and CLABSI's, Sheila pushed for the use of foley and CHG wipes. She implemented innovative ideas such as I/O, ultrasound PIV, and power glide to help patients in need of life-saving medications. Her vision for the expansion of the RRT has cultivated a true rapid response team mentality. After noticing the stress and burnout of her employees, Sheila relentlessly advocated for a second RRT RN to help with the thousands of RRT calls throughout the hospital annually. The second RRT RN has helped improve employee satisfaction, increased availability of RRT for the hospital, and led to positive patient outcomes. Her vision and ideas are inspirational. We are fortunate to have her - not just as our manager - but as a leader, mentor, and role-model for being the best possible nurse and patient advocate.
