Barbara Felton has unrelenting teamwork and steadfast commitment to help and support the Family Birth Center, often with little to no notice. Barbara is an amazing nurse who holds dual positions within the Family Birth Center. She is not only an RN for Mother Baby Unit, but also works as an OB Tech for the Labor and Delivery unit when needed. On numerous occasions, both departments simultaneously depended on Barbara and she always answered the call, continuously aiding and assisting in mitigating the impact of departmental nursing shortages and always with a smile on her face and with a "can do" attitude!
In March, MBU had a nurse call out. With unit census high with patients, we needed another nurse. Despite calling all available nurses, we could not find a nurse who could come in to assist. Luckily, Barbara was covering for an OB tech within the L&D unit for a few hours and since the L&D unit was without patients, I asked Barbara if she would work on the MBU unit until 2300. She agreed and went to the MBU unit immediately. As the night progressed, Barbara decided she would cover the entire 12-hour shift! As the L&D charge nurse, I was thrilled with this decision. Without her, another L&D nurse and would have had to split the shift providing coverage between the two departments. However, since Barbara offered to stay the rest of the night, our patients received the attention and nursing care that otherwise, would have been degraded as we would have been spread very thin.
Barbara indisputably deserves this DAISY Award for her unfaltering support and assistance. Without her support in both departments, I do not know how the departments would function optimally! Barbara has the unparalleled dedication to nursing and her steadfast commitment to both L&D and MBU units.
Barbara, I personally want to thank you and let you know how much I appreciate your help, your teamwork, and your cheerful "can do" attitude. Your commitment to the nursing profession and your outstanding nursing care is undeniable without equality and greatly appreciated by all. You were a saving grace on that night! You are a pleasure to work with and I certainly appreciate all you do for us. Your actions make you such an extraordinary nurse dedicated to the nursing profession. A nurse dedicated to providing compassionate care in order that our patients receive the best care possible. You rock Girl!
