The way I showed up at the VA was not at my best. How we end up in the places we are can sometimes be a mystery, even to the individual. With that being said, when I took my boots off the smell became so bad the door had to be opened. Once the two pairs of socks I was wearing came off things didn't get any better. Initially, it was difficult to tell the bunions from the blisters and open cuts on the tops of my toes. Trudy handed me some cleaning wipes and said she would find some ointment and other necessities. I heard outside the room other nurses and doctors tell her it had to be by prescription because the items were not there. Trudy didn't take no for an answer. She left and came back in minutes with the supplies. She told me not to worry about the smell. It didn't matter the hydrogen peroxide was running off my feet and missing the towel, and it was spilling directly on her pants. Trudy handled her job with the utmost professionalism at all times. She will be forever one of my angels, and as long as she's here, I can only assume she's an angel to countless vets.
This was a hard time for me and my foot condition. Trudy faced the adversities of her peers to ensure I had supplies I needed for my condition. She also cleaned, dressed, and maintained my foot condition well despite the smell, blood, and blisters. She reassured me the whole time and is an angel in my heart. She was professional, kind, caring, and thoughtful.
