Dorela was like an angel for my mom who has end-stage Parkinson's disease.
While in the Observation Unit, my mom had to get a new IV in her hand because she wouldn't straighten her arm, and her IV kept shutting off. The more they tried to straighten her arm the more my mom resisted.
My mom was transferred to the Women and Children's Unit late Thursday night with two IV ports because the Observation Nurse could not get my mom to unbend her arm to take out the old one. The Women and Children's Nurse, Dorela, took great carein getting my mom settled. Dorela was patient and kind. Once my mom relaxed a little, Dorela was able to take out the first IV without trying to make my mom straighten her arm. Dorela gently worked it out even with her arm mostly bent. Dorela understood that when you try to pull on a Parkinson's patient they resist and become fearful.
Dorela put me at ease, and I felt comfortable going home and getting some sleep while my mom was being taken care of by her.
She came back to us on Saturday and gave Mom more great care. She made a very difficult time a little easier. Dorela Shtjefni is the best.
