By the end of 2017, my wife was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer, had her first surgery soon after then a follow-up surgery, and a 3rd surgery which was canceled, literally at the last minute (she was already in the OR). And with all the pre, post and continuing treatments, check-ups and medication, it can obviously be very overwhelming.
But with so much outpouring of love, support and prayers, life's seemingly heavy burdens have become opportunities to grow in understanding and appreciating our relationship with our Maker and with one another.
One notable experience that my wife had through all this journey is having an angel for an OR Prep Nurse - and that angel is Nurse Jomie Rillera.
Nurse Jomie was on duty on both times that my wife had surgery including the 3rd one that was canceled, and she was just consistently warm and accommodating, making sure that everything was in order and keeping A's outlook positive while waiting for the transfer to the OR.
Jomie is very passionate about her job giving her all in what she does. There exudes a sense of personal care that is very comforting yet is also reinforced by humble confidence borne out of her knowledge and experience of her craft which is very reassuring for any patient.
Jomie is also well grounded in her Christian faith and her love for her family which explains why caregiving is so natural for her.
My wife and I, and our entire family could not ask for more in having someone like Nurse Jomie to be A's OR Prep Nurse because not only does she prepare the patient well enough for the procedure but the added touch of warmth and personal care transforms the whole experience into a positively acceptable healing moment.
Thank you Nurse Jomie and thank you Parkland family for taking good care of my wife. God bless you all.
