I first became familiar with Jamie in conjunction with a patient on the pediatric surgery service. This patient had an ostomy and had significant issues with the ostomy site requiring an expertise in care that pediatric surgery was not able to provide. As such, we opted to contact the skin and vascular access team. Not only was the ostomy site challenging, the patient and family required a lot of hands-on time, frequent reassurance, continued re-education, and patience. Jamie took this family on and embraced this patient and family and went above and beyond to manage their care. Her "super-human" work was her patience. She spent hours and hours with this family moving at their pace in order to provide excellent and compassionate care.
After this experience with Jamie, we began to use her in other capacities. She has been instrumental for pediatric surgery patients in getting PICC line placement in the OR, and in Radiology during sedated procedures. This way our children have reduced pain and complications with line placement. Getting PICCs has been a challenge for pediatric patients in the past, and Jamie has changed this paradigm.
The entire pediatric team also loves her for the work she does with them as well. Kudos to Jamie; she is an amazing nurse with superhero status!
