There had been a traumatic event on the unit. While we were all reviewing the event, and asking ourselves how we could have changed things, we had a difficult admission. The patient threatened the staff and complained about every aspect of her treatment. After the second security call of the day, the patient was contained in her room. We had staff outside the door, Dawn entered the patient's room convinced to comply with her medication order. Dawn's careful choice of words, her compassionate approach convinced the patient to comply and have the medication ordered.
