If Brittany White were on a baseball team, she would have played all nine positions on this night.
Brittany, a nurse on Adult ICU (8 East), was charge nurse that night. There were many critical patients on the floor, including one on a RotoProne bed (for respiratory patients) who occasionally had to be manually resuscitated. White had two patients of her own to care for while training a nurse who was working the nurse station desk for the first time, answering questions and helping other nurses, and admitting new patients.
"I have come across many good nurses, but Brittany has definitely surpassed what I've seen," writes another nurse who was on the floor that night. "She sets the standards high for nursing, and I can only wish to become a fraction of what she is and the compassion she has for her job. Tears were definitely coming as I left the floor that morning. We couldn't have done it without her."
