As a physician, I have had the pleasure of working with Rebecca Hutcheson on the geriatric inpatient unit now for over 5 years. She has become a core member of our treatment team and the primary nurse working with our geriatric planning group on various projects and program development for this unit. She has been a phenomenal team member and provides very valuable contributions to improving the compassionate care we provide to our geriatric psychiatry patients.
Rebecca has excellent rapport with the patients on a day to day basis, and always goes 'a step beyond' to make sure their clinical care needs are met appropriately. I often find her sitting in patients' rooms simply talking with them about their worries with great empathy and care. She has excellent medical awareness and is very in tune with seemingly incidental changes in a patient's clinical status. She has identified several cases of new onset atrial fibrillation and quickly identified an emerging stroke process.
She encourages and nurtures the other nursing and tech staff to engage with patients in the right manner and to be aware of their daily medical needs. I also hear her motivating her peers on an interpersonal level, which I feel improves their work satisfaction and overall effectiveness.
Ultimately, I feel that Rebecca Hutcheson is a great example of nursing excellence, someone who provides extraordinary care and support to patients, someone who consistently goes above and beyond what is expected to really make a difference for others. I believe that Mission is very lucky to have her. I commend her for her diligence and commitment.
