My mom had been in the hospital now three nights, and she was on her 4th day. I had been staying the night with her since her first night. We were told on the 4th day early in the morning that she would be released by 6PM. She was happy; I was happy. We were watching the clock and waiting. Then about 5:20PM we were told that my mom had to stay another night due to circumstances out of our control. My mom broke down into tears and started to cry the minute she heard she wasn't going to go home that night. Then watching her cry, I started to cry too.
Shruti, the nurse, was in the room with the social worker, who was giving us the news and saw how upset my mom was. She walked up to her bed, held her hand, and started to apologize. Shruti knew how my mom was so looking forward to going home that day. The social worker was also feeling bad. I know that she worked really hard on trying to get things ironed out for my mom to be able to go home that night. Shruti had been with us almost every day my mom was in the hospital. We got to know her and she got to know us. After Shruti held my mom's hand, she gave her a hug and really made my mom and I feel how sincere she really was.
After they left the room, the social worker walked back in a few minutes later and told us that there was a little surprise for us. Then Shruti walked in with a beautiful vase with gorgeous flowers in it. You should have seen my mom's face light up. It was one of the sweetest things anybody could have done to make her feel a little better and let me tell you, it brought a smile to my mom's face. So thank you to Shruti, we will never forget you. May God bless you now and forever for your truly beautiful kindness and compassion.
