We found out that we had lost our son at 35 weeks pregnant. Shortly after finding out our son no longer had a heartbeat, I had to be rushed away for an emergency C-section due to some internal bleeding. With everything happening so quickly, it left my husband sitting alone in the hospital room, grieving the loss of his son and fearful for his wife. Leah was a nurse on the floor early that morning, and we will forever be grateful she was. She went and checked in on my husband to make sure he was ok before heading to the operating room to assist with my surgery. Waking up from surgery, and remembering that my son was no longer alive, was one of the worst moments of my life. I'll never forget what another nurse shared with me that had been taking care of our son for us since surgery. She told us that Leah had bathed him, and taken some beautiful pictures of him for us. Even though our son was technically gone, she made sure that he was taken care of throughout our entire 5 days at the hospital. When we had a private baptism in our hospital room, Leah was the one to get him ready and bring him to us. When she brought him in, he looked absolutely beautiful- like the angel he is. She made sure that we had whatever we wanted/needed when we left the hospital to preserve his memory. Leah not only took care of our son, but she took incredible care of my husband and I. Leah was our nurse much of our stay in the hospital, and she not only helped ease my physical pain but emotional. Much of my time there I felt scared due to my injuries, and sadness due to my loss. However, under care, I was able to rest a little bit easier each day. Her kindness, compassion and medical knowledge made each day a little less scary. I'm not sure if we could have made it through those days without her. She exemplifies extraordinary, compassionate care. We will never, ever forget everything she did for our son and for us.
