Jessica was my nurse for my delivery. I always wonder what kind of nurse I would get for delivery. It's a little nerve-wracking because a bad nurse can really be negative, while a good nurse can make even a hard birth story, better. Jessica was the latter. She was so personable and relatable and wow, I could go on and on! She took time to get to know me and my birth history, she told me about her life, and she taught a student in the process.
In the midst of this crazy and scary birth story, she never left my side. I don't have any specific moment to point to, for how she supported me, which I think is indicative of just how constant she was. She was next to me, with me, taking care of me, talking with me, etc. She came to check on me after my son was in the NICU, and after I invited her, she came to see us before we left for Children's as well.
Jessica was the ideal nurse - present, invested, personal and professional. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to be a labor and delivery nurse. Dealing with something so life-changing and monumental for most people, over and over every single day. I imagine it could be easy for it to become mundane and "normal", but Jessica made it feel anything but that. She honored me, made me feel seen and worthy. I am so, so thankful for her.
