Sonia made a lasting impression with a patient and his wife while working on 3 West- Neurology. The patient found himself admitted after exhibiting stroke symptoms. He had no idea what stroke symptoms were and for that reason he had delayed his decision to seek treatment. At 56 years old, he wrote that he was shocked to get confirmation that he had suffered a stroke. He also shared that he was anxious and he and his wife had a flurry of questions with which they bombarded Sonia. They were awed by Sonia's patience and expertise. Sonia's comforting words, advice, and education made them feel more at ease and confident that they would get through this difficult situation. Her kindness was so appreciated…even when Sonia was not assigned to the patient, she took time to connect with him and his wife.
Because of Sonia's compassion, knowledge, and attentive care, she made a very painful, unfamiliar and serious life-changing situation into one that was more understandable and acceptable. The patient felt she gave him a more hopeful and confident outlook for his future.
