A co-worker nominated Eric Poppe for the leadership skills he provides to others in the organization. Co-workers will consult often with Eric for his expert opinion on a variety of topics, including how a detailed piece of equipment functions or about the best way to handle a challenging stakeholder. Eric consistently takes charge while maintaining a calm demeanor in stressful situations. He involves team members in decision making and respects their input. He has a collaborative nature when working with others, as opposed to using a top down leadership approach. Because of this, many team members willingly come to Eric for support.
"When I speak with the anesthesia team, they tell me they are always glad when Eric is in charge. They know that no matter how busy the day is, it will go smoothly under his leadership."
"Eric is a continuous learner, role model and leader. He rarely says no when asked to help out with a project or new initiative, but, rather, finds a way to say yes by incorporating the needs of patients, employees and stakeholders."
Eric says he felt surprised and honored to receive the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. He says he enjoys working with a great team in the Operating Room.
"Patients are completely dependent on us for their health and safety, and we take that role very seriously. I am completely honored to have the privilege to work with such a highly skilled group of staff. We work in a challenging environment, and when stakes are at their highest, we all pull together in the name of our patients. It is truly amazing to see our team in action in these situations. Everyone knows their roles, and they are phenomenal at them."
