I was a patient of Rachel's post-operatively with my first miracle child miraculously conceived via IVF. I was post-cesarean section in Rachel's care when I suddenly became nauseous. I pressed my call light which was answered right away and within minutes Rachel arrived at my bedside. She began to assess my complaint, at the same time took my vital signs when I began to lose my eyesight and the ability to talk. Through my blurred vision, I saw Rachel press the code button and within moments help arrived. I no longer had my vision or the ability to speak, but I could hear everything that was happening around me.
My baby along with my family was rushed out of the room so that the team could take care of me. As an experienced critical care/ER nurse for over 20 years, being on the other side as a patient without the ability to do anything about it is indescribable. I owe my life to Rachel. Rachel's prompt response when I initially called for assistance and her immediate actions and critical thinking is what led to a successful resuscitation and positive outcome. Without her, I wouldn't be here today. I have felt an overwhelming need to at minimum say thank you to her as I was blessed to have had her as my nurse that day. I recently joined the TCH family as an employee and this was my opportunity to show my gratitude.
