Steve took care of my father for a short period of time during a recent hospitalization. Steve took the time to explain to us, the family, what was going on during each step with the care from the doctor. Steve honored my father's wishes when it came to his care, allowing him to make the choices on what he wanted to be done and when he wanted it done. This is the specific care that stood out to me. He would always say that my dad had a say in his care and explained what was happening and what would happen with the treatment he was receiving. Steve would not only care for my father but would check with us constantly to see if we needed anything or if we (the family) had questions about my father's care.
My father was released to the regular floor and returned to the MICU during his stay at the Ralph J. Johnson VA Medical Center. Steve did not directly care for my father during this time in MICU, but Steve made sure to check in with my father and our family to see again if we needed anything or if we had any questions. Steve helped provide support during a very emotional and difficult time for my family. Thank you, Steve!!
