At first, I thought Steve might be a biker and not a nurse. Surprisingly, the compassion and energy he displayed were very impressive. Even when he couldn't get to me right away, he made me feel like I was on his mind and planning to get to me soon. We spent a lot of time swapping stories and visions, talking about each other's lives - sharing hardships as well as celebrations. I could tell that Steve was passionate about the job he was doing and taking care of people; I know he is going to continue to do great things.
At shift change, Steve introduced the oncoming RN, gave report, wished me well, and said his good-byes. A little while late, he entered my doorway. He was clearly making his way out the door and he stopped by to say one last goodbye. At that time, he dropped off a special gift.
Steve gave me a "seed of happiness". He shared that someone had given it to him, and it really brought him some hope and he wanted to share it with me. This simple gesture was truly thoughtful and compassionate. Steve impacted my life immensely and I would like to express my thanks to him.
