Ryan has been nominated by his patients and families 4 times! This story was sent to us by a grateful mother:
Ryan was the first face we saw when we came up to the PICU at 3 am. He was so friendly and helped us get settled in. At the same time he was assisting us, he also somehow managed to get our daughter situated as well. In the next hour or so, our daughter got even sicker, and her lung partially collapsed. Ryan worked diligently at performing percussion, suctioning, and everything else he could do to get that lung back open. She was at the point that her physicians were talking about intubation. We were terrified, but Ryan just kept working with our daughter.
Hours went by with him trying to get her breathing to improve. The sun came up and we had made it through the night without our daughter being intubated! Her breathing still wasn't great, but it had significantly improved. We knew we were not out of the woods, but we could see some sun shining through the trees.
We had Ryan several more nights over the course of our stay and he always had a smiling face and worked just as hard as the first night we met him. One morning, right before 7 am, he was asked to stay another 4 hours and he agreed, continuing at 100%. He didn't complain or become cranky, he just kept doing what he does best. Ryan, along with his colleagues, made our PICU stay the best it could be. He is an asset to the PICU. Thanks to Ryan for being awesome!
