Jamie cared for a patient whose MD gave him not so good news about needing more testing because of a recent diagnosis of cancer. He was already scared and emotional about the current diagnosis and other health issues. He broke down crying. Jamie sat with him and held his hand, encouraging him to talk or cry or say nothing at all. She helped him a great deal because he was able to verbalize how frightened and scared he really was. He did not have any visitors due to the weather and recently lost his mother from a stroke. There was a lot going on with this patient. Jamie, being the kind, patient, compassionate nurse that she is, took her time to holistically care for him. When leader rounding, he could not say enough about Jamie. What an angel she is, how she didn't leave him when he really needed someone there with him, and when the doctor was talking to him. Even the physician recognized this as true nursing and commented to Jamie that she didn't think many nurses would do what she did.
