We would like to thank Drew Molacek for his outstanding nursing skills, work ethic, and compassion. He worked the 12 hour night shift and worked 7-10 nights straight taking care of my husband, K. K was the first and only person for a long time to receive 2 mechanical pumps L and RVADS. Drew took care of K the entire week he was on ECMO.
K had dozens of nurses, a multitude of doctors and teams, but Drew's diligence, kindness, and good judgment were exceptional. I believe God worked through Drew those very difficult times K survived. Drew was always alert, mentally sharp, expressed intelligent nursing skills and caring.
A day or so after the pumps were placed in K's heart, a blood clot stopped the RVAD. Drew was there and alerted doctors and helped K get through it. Drew noticed immediately when K started moving under sedation and could have dislodged tubing to his ECMO. He quietly took necessary actions. He talked to K when K was so out. Drew always was there doing the correct protocol. Drew is an exceptional nurse. He will always be an angel to us.
We really feel that Drew was the most important key in K surviving the 1st week of ICU, surgery, and ECMO. Drew gave 110% for K and we are so grateful. Thank you! I tear up as I witnessed his care for my K. K no longer is in need of the VADS. He is off the transplant list. His heart is normal size and recovered!
