I suffer from a potentially debilitating condition known as "IIH" (idiopathic intracranial hypertension also known as pseudo tumor cerebri). It is often somewhat "intimidating" when it comes to administering my care and on the afternoon when I was in active labor and my pain was worsening, I began to experience anxiety. My nurse walked in the room and commanded my care. She was calm and in control and very reassuring. She had an excellent bedside manner and displayed accurate knowledge about my condition and how to proceed, she calmed my anxiety and made me feel confident enough to proceed with getting an epidural which was the initial step in advancing my labor. She also noticed that I was using a diffuser in my room, she talked to me about the use of specific oils for the purpose of mood stability, calming tensions, nervousness, and headaches. She even allowed me to try one of her own personal oil recipes which did successfully improve my symptoms (headache/tension). She was very personable and made me feel extremely comfortable and she even seemed to linger a little after her shift ended causing me to feel like she genuinely cared about me, my situation and the outcome of my child's birth. Especially when I consider that I was "passed off" to her. I would not be surprised if you received this nomination and discover that you don't actually have a nurse named Rachel who was responsible for my care on that fateful day, and that instead, I actually encountered an angel that afternoon who cared for me and got me through an extremely difficult time.
