My husband was admitted to the hospital early on a Saturday morning, and did not get to go home until Thursday. That was many days and nights, and while we had many good nurses, we felt that Brandon was extraordinary. Thankfully, we were under his care for 3 shifts during our stay. My husband came in for routine double hernia repair on Friday, and by early Saturday morning, he was in horrific pain with an ileus in his bowel system. With IV meds, and an NG tube in place for four days, no eating or drinking, and pain only managed by Dilaudid every three hours, my husband was so uncomfortable, so anxious and so discouraged. Brandon was so kind and so informative. He listened to all of S's concerns and questions, wrote them down, and did whatever he could to find answers at such an anxious, unbowing time for us. When he came in, he not only was there to take care of meds and reports that were on his agenda and to-do's, but we always felt that he was not burdened by any additional questions and needs that S (or I) had. He felt like a caretaker for both of us. I was so impressed with him in all of that, but I was really touched by the way Brandon handled my husband the night the Ativan and the Dilaudid had a very adverse effect on my husband. S got very disoriented and agitated on his meds. He had very little idea why he was there and where he was, and he was over being connected to his IV tube and NG tube... thinking they were goggles and all sorts of aggravating restrictive things. It was upsetting, to say the least, as S pulled his whole NG tube out in frustration and then ripped his IV tube out. It was a disaster, and Brandon never flinched, never raised his voice, never panicked. He stayed calm as he kept reassuring S and gently trying to reorient him toward reality. He treated S with such respect and dignity at frankly, an undignified time. I was so thankful for his steadiness and care and for bringing my husband back to safety, calm, and peace. A true caretaker in every way, with such a healing touch.
