Emily provided extraordinary care and compassion to our deceased daughter, A, who was also a DAISY Award Recipient. We had numerous positive encounters with Emily while our daughter was enrolled in a cancer clinical trial.
When we first met Emily, we were extremely impressed by her remarkable interpersonal skills. She was a valuable link to A's entire medical team. Emily went the "extra mile" to schedule treatments and medical appointments. No matter what we requested or needed, she never said "that's not my job" or asked us to contact another department. Emily diligently fulfilled our requests with a positive and accommodating attitude. She always offered her valuable and very much appreciated expertise and guidance.
Furthermore, Emily was always professional and treated our daughter, family, staff, and us, with utmost dignity and respect. She enthusiastically answered our numerus questions and never made us feel as though we were uninformed because we didn't possess medical backgrounds or understand medical terminology. In fact, this was the first time anyone in our family was touched by cancer or had a terminal illness. Emily was extremely patient when she answered our questions. If she didn't know the answer to a question, Emily never hesitated to contact A's oncologist or another medical professional.
Emily was action-oriented and comprehended the importance of responding quickly to emergency situations with her calm, detailed approach. She always made herself accessible to us for our frequent phone calls, and in the rare occasion when she was not available, she promptly returned our call. She placed countless calls and texts to other medical personnel and emergency departments on our behalf. Emily did everything in her power to ensure our daughter did not suffer and received treatment as soon as possible.
Finally, Emily was kindhearted and added her compassionate touch to A's care. She displayed kindness and empathy by personally making sure A was comfortable. She repositioned our daughter in bed, walked her to the bathroom, helped her into wheelchairs, and assisted transporting her to appointments and to the lobby. Emily also visited A while she was hospitalized.
We are very thankful for all the help and support Emily provided to A. We could never thank her enough for all her kindnesses, empathy, compassion, and dedication to the nursing profession.
