When one looks at the definition of compassionate in the Webster dictionary it states: feeling or showing sympathy, understanding, caring, sensitive, warm, loving, merciful, considerate, kind, humane, charitable, and big-hearted. When I look at the definition of compassionate in my dictionary the only name I see is Nairym. I have been a patient at Celebration Florida Hospital on and off since 2010. I have been treated by many doctors, nurses, PCT, hospital staff in general and I have to say that Celebration Hospital prides itself in being one of the most compassionate hospitals in the area.

In all these years I have never met a nurse as compassionate and caring as Nairym. From the evening of my admission, she went out of her way to insure my comfort and showing sympathy and compassion for my health situation. She had me moved to another room due to the A/C not working properly in my first room. She knew I was upset because I felt too warm. I had taken my heart monitors off my chest because I couldn't stand them due to feeling too hot. She came over after I relaxed in my bed and convinced me to wear them and then got me moved to a room that was cooler. She has an ability to solve situations that shows her heart and compassion. Nairym wears her heart on her sleeve.

Everything that she said that she would do for me, she kept her word. As a Christian person I have learned from the word of God to let your yes be yes and your no be no. That is the character of Nairym. When I missed my lunch because I had to go and get an MRI of the brain done, she saved my lunch and re-heated it for me upon return to my room without me even asking. When I didn't get my MRI done the first time around because I panicked, she made sure the next morning that I was placed on the list to get the MRI done under sedation even though there were two other patients on the list already for that morning. She pushed for me to get my MRI's completed that same day.

Not once did Nairym complain or tell me that I had to wait for something. Even when I told her to take her time with the many of my requests, she would always come back right away with what I had requested or at least tell me why she couldn't get me something I requested. She was always checking on me to make sure I was okay and to see if I needed any assistance as I was at risk of falling due to my Parkinson's. I had the opportunity to observe her with her co-workers and other patients, and she demonstrated the same quality of treatment as she did with me. Always with a smile on her face and happy to help any way she could.

She went above her duties to ensure that my stay at Celebration Hospital was the best it could be under my circumstances. Nairym's passion and enthusiasm glowed with her smile and she was always, always willing to help in any situation. She even surprised my brother who was staying with me when he was joking with her about getting some ice cream and coffee. She went without telling him and got him the ice cream and coffee. He couldn't believe that she actually went out of her way to make him feel welcomed. He even made the comment that he had actually never received so much attention in a Hospital as he received from Nairym. I can go on and on describing the many situations in just four days in which Nairym went out of her way to be compassionate and caring for me during my stay.

She indicated to me that the nursing manager for the unit had all laptops labeled with the names of super heroes due to particular unit being the super unit. Well, I would have to tell the nursing manager that Nairym's name should be on one of the laptops because as far as I am concerned she is a super hero. Nairym demonstrated extraordinary are, compassion, and is a true example of what a nurse should be. Her character is beyond reproach and I wholeheartedly recommend her for the DAISY Award.
