I've been working with a patient who recently underwent emergency colorectal surgery with a resulting colostomy. May had the opportunity to speak to this patient who was terrified of the possible outcomes.
May bonded with the patient and followed up to guide her through this process. May visited the ICU and assisted the patient with changing and helped her out of bed for therapy so the patient could walk. While the patient walked May changed her bed and ensured she had fresh linens. I was so impressed by how May went above and beyond because she wanted to ensure during a time of difficulty that the patient had support. May is a wonderful example of the spirit of nursing.
