Gaylene Monson, a nurse at Luther Midelfort Northland in Barron, has been chosen as a recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Monson was nominated by V, an employee at Luther Midelfort Northland diagnosed with cancer in Feb. 2009 for her help in coordinating V’s medical care locally in Barron as well as at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
“If it was not for Gaylene, I truly don’t think I would have been able to handle all that I had to
endure. She was my one mainstay that I could count on to tell me what was going on, lead me in the direction I needed to go and offer the support to do it.”
While Monson was honored to receive the award, she also wanted to give credit to her nursing colleagues. “It’s what we all, as nurses, do every day for our patients,” said Monson.
“It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that.” said Lynn Frank, chief nursing officer at Luther
Midelfort.
