“Recently, one of our small patients at the North NICU was born with some difficulties that were not easily diagnosed. It was decided that the patient should be transported to the Central NICU. While at the North NICU, Sharon Enoch was this little patient’s nurse. She took such great time and effort to help the parents and other family members understand the process of determining a diagnosis and gave the family the support and comfort to help them walk through the process at their own pace, understanding where Mom and Dad were each, separately, at in their understanding of having the baby transferred and explained the steps taken to help determine a diagnosis for their baby.
Sharon was very reassuring to them, and told them all would be well, that they would like Central NICU and the nurses who would be caring for their baby. She also assured them that she, too, would be at the Central NICU in the following few days and would be sure to be assigned to their baby. And, as promised, Sharon was at the Central NICU a few days later; took care of their baby, was present when the diagnosis was made, supported the parents and other family members, held their hand, comforted them and helped them make it through this difficult time.
This is just one example of the many ways Sharon brings the full force of her passion and compassion to work every day. She is committed to the families she provides care for, she brings a wealth of knowledge and support to her efforts, is connected to resources both in and out of the hospital and brings the breadth of her abilities to bear on every situation she is involved in. Sharon not only supports her patients and families, but she also goes the extra mile to support her co-workers and their families. She has amazing generosity and forbearance that she shares and supports everyone and anyone in her circle of contact.
Sharon is the first one to visit a co-worker who is sick or hospitalized, to arrange meals for them, to collect funds to help them out. She connects people with solutions. She arranged a help session for individuals in our unit who care for their elderly parents, as she does. It turns out there are many of our co-workers who are in this situation and could use a support group to help them. Sharon saw the need and made it happen. The examples of her efforts are endless. I am happy and proud to nominate Sharon Enoch for the DAISYAward.”
