Amber is an exceptional nurse. As her cohort and partner for the Pediatrics lactation staff, I can see the exceptional service she provides to her patients. Amber comes in on days off to serve patients when needs increase. The COVID-19 pandemic has disintegrated most lactation services from the service area and Amber feels this impact and has gone above and beyond to increase capacity to allow for more access for this patient population. Amber has stayed over multiple shifts to calm the concerns and anxieties of multiple new parents. Amber is not only a Registered Nurse but also a Certified Lactation Counselor, childbirth educator, and a postpartum doula. She has started the pediatrics lactation services with the help of her leaders and has been a key to the success of the program. Amber continues to strive to give our patients excellent care by researching evidenced-based care, options for patients, and learning new things.
As her partner, we often share mutual patients, I can attest to the amazing things our patients have to say about Amber. Although I was trained by Amber, we see patients in separate offices. On the rare occasion, we are in the same location, I get the ability to learn great things first-hand from her. In a recent care case with a new and complex mother, Amber approached this mother with extreme care, patience, and thorough knowledge. She gave the mother options to reach the feeding goals she was striving for while keeping the patient's and mother's psyche in mind. Amber spent multiple hours helping the mother navigate her breastfeeding difficulties while meeting the nutritional need of the infant. She spent hours at the office to provide individualized patient care. I have spoken with this mother, who is a new physician in our area, and she truly feels Amber's dedication kept her able to care for her infant at home in the best way she could.
Amber not only teaches patients pre-birth lactation courses but she also teaches inspired staff and providers about lactation promotion in our patients. Amber walks in with a smile on her face ready to meet the needs of our new parents and their infants. She truly makes a huge difference in the care we provide at ThedaCare Pediatrics.
