Both Xenia Wieland and Karrah Gereau gave my husband exceptional care during his many stays on the Telemetry unit. Their cheerfulness was able to relieve much of his anxiety from being in the hospital. They would explain procedures he was to have and why, what each medicine was and what it was for, and his vitals and what they showed, with care and easy to understand language. They would stop in and say hi even when he was not assigned to them.
Just seeing them would calm him and he knew he was safe. He was admitted for the last time during the COVID restrictions. He knew I couldn't be there with him and I was afraid that I wouldn't see him alive again. We were both extremely anxious, but it eased somewhat when we were told he was being admitted to the Telemetry unit.
Luckily, Xenia was his nurse and on Saturday she hooked us up for Facetime and I was actually able to see him, and him me. We spoke two times on Saturday and once more on Sunday before he was released to come home. He told me when he got home how comfortable Xenia made him feel, the concern she showed him, and how much he appreciated it- especially the Facetime we were able to have thanks to her.
He passed away Tuesday morning, next to me, peacefully and in his sleep. I am so thankful to all the nurses, doctors, and staff at Glens Falls Hospital for the care he had over the years, especially on the Telemetry unit. Xenia and Karrah are not only exceptional nurses, but they show they are passionate about their jobs and the people they care for.
