Kelley was the Labor and Delivery nurse for our first baby. When it came time to push, Kelley coached us through the process. Her calm yet efficient demeanor suited us perfectly and made us feel comfortable. After about 20 minutes of pushing, Kelley was able to see the top of the baby's head.
Instead of causing my wife to lose focus or concentration, Kelley subtly made eye contact with me and pointed to the baby's head. I understood her gesture and looked to see my baby's head. It was a beautiful sight and allowed me to encourage my wife and let her know her pushing was helping our son be born. I will never forget that small gesture Kelley made that directed me to look at my baby's head. It was subtle, graceful, trusting, quiet, and understanding. At that moment, I knew Kelley was in total control of the situation and I felt complete peace.
