Shana exemplifies the epitome of excellence and has stood out this year in many ways. For starters, Shana provides exceptional care and compassion while caring for patients. She utilizes her knowledge to effectively care for her patients and always takes the extra time to understand patients' needs and concerns, and then goes the extra mile to make sure they have what they need to be more independent, remain at home and out of the hospital.
In addition, Shana exhibits strong leadership qualities and has served as a preceptor to new employees. She considers everyone as a valuable member of the team and fosters growth and development of her peers. She also serves as an advocate and voice for other nurses through her position on the ONA bargaining team.
Lastly this year, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Shana was one of the first nurses to volunteer to be trained as a member of our SWAT team and care for COVID positive patients. She has been willing to accommodate the needs of the agency by rearranging her schedule, traveling out of her areas, and doing whatever is needed to help patients and employees during this fearful time. She has been selfless and continually places patients, coworkers, and the VNA as a priority.
