Emily has a heart of gold! She displays all the qualities of an extraordinary nurse: caring, kind, compassionate, and fiercely dedicated to her patients and co-workers. I have been repeatedly impressed by the way Emily goes above and beyond the call of duty.
Just last week, a code blue was called overhead at shift change. Even though she had worked all night, Emily was the first person to respond to the basement where our EVS worker had been found down. Without even the basic necessities, like gloves or a crash cart, Emily immediately started CPR. She even asked the MD who had arrived if she should provide mouth-to-mouth. Because of limited resources, Emily performed CPR for 8 full minutes before another staff member was able to relieve her! Unfortunately, the outcome was poor, but the effort Emily poured forth for a total stranger was heroic!
Another instance I will never forget is a night that Emily was charging. I had a patient who had suddenly decompensated and elected for end-of-life care instead of having more procedures. Despite the difficulties surrounding visitation during COVID, Emily ensured that the family was able to be with my patient during his final journey towards eternity. In addition, she personally helped with the rest of my assignment so that I could provide this patient and family with all the necessary care and support. She is truly one-of-a-kind!
Emily is not just an incredible nurse; she is an incredible person! She chooses to nurse with her head and her heart. She is always there to lend a hand to help or a shoulder to cry on. I feel so blessed and privileged to work alongside her and call her my friend. I hope she knows how special and appreciated she is! God bless you, Emily!
