I had a very rough delivery that resulted in an unexpected C-section. I experienced complications with my catheter. I was in extreme pain due to the catheter, even though this is not the norm. Maria knew my pain level was high and she was the one to discover that my pain was due to an unknown latex allergy.
We were in the hospital for 5 days and Maria was my nurse for the last two days we were there. Maria was extremely kind and compassionate to not only myself but also my husband and newborn son. I could feel her concern and care and it was incredibly reassuring during a very difficult and overwhelming time. I was unable to use the restroom and was told I needed a catheter. My previous experience with catheters was painful and Maria was very sympathetic. She did everything she could to help me manage my pain. After 24 hours I was still having issues and was told I would be sent home with a catheter. Maria's concern for my pain and trepidation about having the catheter was evident. She did everything in her power to find a solution that would reduce my pain. Maria was relentless in her problem solving by consulting with other nurses and doctors. I trusted her and she was true to her word. Based on my previous experiences, she switched to a silicone catheter. I felt almost no pain with this catheter and Maria checked on me numerous times. When we were released, she reassured us that everything would be ok and took our first family photo. Without her compassion, empathy, and determination, this entire experience would have been very different. Maria was our angel during a difficult time and we are so incredibly thankful and grateful that she was our nurse.
