Last night when I went to the ER it was very busy and I had to take a cot in the hallway. I was in the most pain I have ever experienced in my life and was not sure what was wrong with me. After initial tests ruling out a heart attack, the doctor ordered pain medication. An IV still was not started and the ER was very busy. That's when nurse Pamela Orlando, came walking by with her keys and purse in her hand, ready to go home after her shift. Nurse Pamela saw I was in extreme pain and instead of choosing to walk out the door, she dropped her things, talked to the doctor, grabbed an IV, and all my pain meds. She started the IV to try to get me some type of relief as fast as possible, stating that she could not walk out the door seeing me in such pain. She wasn't assigned to me, it wasn't her section, she was done with her shift and ready to go home. Instead, she came to my aid on her own time. I had acute appendicitis and ended up in emergency surgery a couple of hours later. Pamela Orlando, you are an angel. Thank you for your dedication; you are what health care should be all about, the patient.
