Over the last several weeks, I have heard nothing but compliments about Shannon. Towards the end of the shift, she mentioned that a patient was desatting and asked if the patient could be ruled out for COVID. I went to assess the patient, I agreed with her. The patient needed to go down to CT. I asked Shannon to go down with the patient since the other nurse was busy. She was willing and just took over from there.
Any other nurse might have given push-back, not Shannon. She was concerned for this patient and continued to follow through so the patient would not decompensate. She has stepped up during this pandemic. She is an extraordinary team lead on our COVID ICU. When a patient is getting intubated, she will have all the charting done for the nurse. After a patient gets intubated, there is a lot of charting that takes place to have it all done after the process is a relief for the primary nurse. For her to do it without being asked shows what a great nurse she is.
