Jodie showed sincere compassion, kindness, and empathy in her care for my sister, K, during her last few days of life. Jodie showed the same amount of compassion, kindness, and empathy to our family during such an emotionally challenging time. Jodie was very thorough in her communication with all of us and took great care of my sister.
In addition to providing medical needs, Jodie dressed my sister in a gown (something previous caregivers never offered), styled her hair, and applied some makeup. She went the extra mile to show dignity and compassion for my sister, who never regained consciousness since her arrival in the ED and provided a trusted, friendly face to all of us. Jodie was also with us on the last day of my sister's life; Jodie stayed with us until her last breath and was our support through the Gift of Life process. She truly embodies the qualities of the DAISY Award.

Jodie is an extraordinary nurse that exceeds the expectations of a DAISY Award recipient. Jodie cared for my mother after she had a sudden cardiac arrest and was then placed on life support. From the first night, Jodie made it clear that her priority was first, to take care of my mother, but also myself, but also myself and my family.
Jodie took the time to learn each member of the families' name and kept us well informed throughout the entire process. She was an advocate not just for my mother in her final days, but also for us as a family. The amount of compassion she showed while she cared for my mother is immeasurable.
On her second night with us, while my family was out of the room speaking with the Gift of Life, Jodie took the time to do my mother's hair and wash her face up. During this time when we were making some of the most difficult decisions we have ever made, I would have never thought to put a little makeup on her and braid her hair as she did, but I'm so incredibly thankful that Jodie did.
On the day we were withdrawing care, Jodie was not scheduled to work. After talking with another nurse, we learned that Jodie had picked up the night shift to be there with our family. I found this very touching and feel blessed that Jodie was there for this difficult time. I know Jodie did everything she could to keep my mother comfortable and to make sure we were prepared for what was to come. We met many great nurses during our time at Mercy Health, but Jodie exceeded every expectation I had as a nurse, and she is just a genuine, caring human being. Words are not enough to thank her for everything she did for my family.
