Stacey was my nurse for two full days on the ortho trauma floor after a horrific crash where I was hit from behind on my bicycle by an automobile not paying attention and driving 55 mph. Stacey tended to me in an incredibly caring and heartfelt manner post-surgery while I was in excruciating pain.
What set Stacey apart was her patience and desire to help me with my mental discomfort - a young, active individual now forced to lay in bed for days. She would come and ask about how I was doing, not just with the items on her chart or the items the doctors asked her to monitor. She stayed and listened to me talk about my family, my fiancée, what I would be doing at home if I wasn't here, what I did for a living, and what I was thinking so that she could respond in a positive way.
Despite receiving over 200 calls on a single shift one afternoon, Stacey sought the floor attendant to take me outside for some fresh air for a bit to bring some brightness to my day. Stacey without a doubt went above and beyond not only with her actions but with her compassionate care to ensure I started the long road to recovery in an accelerated spirit.
