Iliana is a co-worker of mine and an extremely great nurse. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to work alongside each other in the ICU and more specifically, with the ECMO patients.
The other week, my uncle was admitted to the COVID ICU at our facility. I told my family that he absolutely had to come to BUMCP because of my trust and respect for my co-workers. I knew that the physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff at BUMCP would be able to give him the best fighting chance he had to overcome COVID. Iliana was the perfect example of why I told my cousins that they had to bring my uncle this hospital.
Although my uncle fought and hung on for a while, ultimately the virus overcame his body, and he passed away after withdrawing support. Iliana was the nurse who was there the day that we withdrew care from my uncle. She was absolutely fantastic to my family. She went above and beyond her requirements to ensure that my aunt and my extended family were informed and educated on the process. She was in consistent communication with the family and ensured that multiple people were able to participate in video calls prior to him passing away.
When my aunt was bedside, she was tender and comforting, and extremely accommodating. Iliana went above and beyond, and I truly feel as though my uncle was treated as a member of our collective "Banner Family".
Iliana is an exemplary nurse and I am forever grateful for the care and support she provided to my uncle and my family. I feel very lucky to work along with nurses of her caliber.
