My husband underwent bowel surgery for cancer in January 2020. We spent seven days in the Med-Surg Unit. We were discharged, but he had complications that brought us back in. We were there for another six-day stay.
Anna was P's nurse for several shifts on both stays. She cared for him in a competent and caring manner that helped us to feel secure during a difficult and scary time. We always felt respected and knew that she was truly interested in his best care. She shared enough of her own personal cancer journey to acknowledge and validate P's emotional needs but never compromised her professionalism.
Anna, as well as all the staff we dealt with, made me, as P's wife, feel welcome and cared for too.
