My husband and I came to GSR ED for severe back/rib pain. We were under the impression this was related to recent spinal fractures and "mild osteoarthritis". Leslie was our nurse that day. She explained what tests were ordered, stayed with us in prep for the tests, saw to it we had everything we needed to get to and from the tests and educated us Re: the meds I was being given.
The most difficult part of the day was receiving the news that the diagnosis was metastasized breast cancer which initially took place in 1995. We were devastated. Leslie held our hand, was able to allow and encourage us to express whatever was in our hearts, and provide a comforting and safe environment throughout. We will never forget her kindness at one of the most difficult times in our lives. She's an extraordinary person with a vast supply of compassion and the ability to communicate so very well with her patients. We have commented many times since we felt she was God-given on that day for us.
To put the icing on the cake, after being admitted to the hospital my nurse said I had mail already?! Leslie had sent a beautiful card and words of encouragement. Who does these things? For sure, an angel, and this one's name is Leslie!
