From the very first assignment together, Pia has continued to amaze me every day with her compassion and love she has for her patients and her job - no matter where that may be. She is always telling me how her managers place her as a preceptor to other nurses and this shows how much her managers immediately trust her and value her as a traveler in their facility.
Here is what a few of her past managers have said to me about her:
I have been working with Pia for almost a year now. Me as a unit supervisor and Pia as a bedside nurse.? I will give you two examples of recent events where she has excelled.
Early this week we called a rapid response on a patient on our unit; it was not Pia's patient, she just came into the room and offered to help. Noticing there were possibly too many people, she offered to watch the nurse's other patients, even though she had just gotten an admission herself. What great teamwork.
Another event happened a couple of weeks ago. A patient's wife had concerns about previous health scares of her husband. Pia reassured the wife that she would take good care of the patient and that she will call her before leaving at the end of the shift. We inserted an NG tube with a lot of drainage everywhere, as the patient had thrown up. Pia was so professional even though we had patient emesis splattered on us. At the end of the day, Pia called the patient's wife and gave her an update on him. During my leadership rounds on the patient the next day, the patient stated, "The nurse has such confidence in herself and I knew I could trust that she knew what she was doing. I felt safe."
These are just a couple of examples that I could give, but there are so many more examples of her great teamwork and skills.?

I have had the pleasure of having Pia as a travel nurse in my unit for almost a year. Pia has not only impacted our patients but the staff as well. Pia ensures that she is there for her patients and goes out of her way to ensure they are comfortable. You can often find Pia chatting with her patients in their room or walking with them in the hall.
The staff in the surgical unit sees her as one of their own. Pia will offer help whenever she is free. She has also taken on precepting one of my new graduate nurses. Pia is a breath of fresh air, always smiling, and always has a positive attitude. She not only impacts the patients she provides care for but also the patients she indirectly helps take care of by answering a call light of a patient that is not hers or helping out a fellow nurse by giving pain medication.

As you can see, Pia is just one of the most compassionate, caring, and selfless nurses I have had the pleasure to work with for almost 2 years. She is a true DAISY Nurse for her continuous help to patients, patient families, and staff all across the country.
