My father was admitted to 4 North. He had been in bed at home for a few days not feeling well and did not have enough strength to get up. He was admitted for a UTI and dehydration. Before going to the hospital he was so weak he would not eat more than a few crackers at a time. Cassidy was his nurse when he got to the floor from the ER. I was already stressed not being able to stay with him and worried the nurses wouldn't be able to understand him because he has such a hard time hearing. Cassidy called me shortly after I left the ER letting me know he was settled in his room, and doing good. She stated he was very alert and the only thing he was asking for was food. Hearing this in itself was a blessing. Cassidy assured me she was going to get him a sandwich tray and make sure he was comfortable. Shortly after this phone call, Cassidy called me back asking if it was okay if she ordered my dad a pizza. He did not like the sandwich, and due to the time of night, the cafeteria was not open. Cassidy went out of her way to make sure my daddy had something to eat.
My dad is since home and doing great, and he talks about how much of a blessing Cassidy was to him that night. She visited with him while he ate and they shared stories. Dad told me Cassidy was engaged and that he prayed for her to have a long and loving marriage just like he had had with my mother. I called Cassidy back during the night to check in, she assured me Dad had a full belly and was resting peacefully. I asked Cassidy to treat my dad the way she would want her own dad treated; Cassidy told me that my dad reminded her of her own grandpa, and I knew then my dad was in the best of hands.
I would just like Cassidy to know how much of a Godsend she was to me while my dad was in the hospital. She made me feel at ease knowing my dad was receiving the best care possible. I know Cassidy had other patients to care for, but she made my dad feel as if he was the only patient she had.
