My Cardiac ICU nurse was an outstanding woman named Amelia Edwards. I came to the hospital via helicopter from South Lake Tahoe because I was having a heart attack. I found out that I had 100% blockage on my LAD and 70% on my RCA. I had stents put into both arteries. I am 62 years old and had no idea that I had any sort of heart disease. I was scared out of my mind and worried that I might die. Amelia not only was extremely attentive, but she also took the time to help me emotionally, sitting with me while I cried and reassuring me that I would be okay. To me she went above and beyond "the call of duty." She checked in on me regularly and became my advocate when my second scheduled stent procedure and echo-cardiogram was taking a lot longer to occur than I was originally told. Rather than just telling me that I had to be patient. She went out of her way to make phone calls to get me a definitive update. Just knowing that I was then scheduled to have the procedure at about 2:30 pm made so much difference, rather than sitting in my bed worrying and watching the hands of the clock move around the dial. As I listened to her tell the night nurse who I was and what I was about, it was like she had known me for years. She just 'got me' beyond what was on my chart. She so deserves to be recognized for the amazing nurse she is.
