During a discharge phone call, a postpartum C-section patient was moved to tears as she began to describe the kindness Dora had shown her. At the change of shift, this patient's newborn baby girl was getting transferred to NICU from our newborn nursery. This brought fear and panic to the patient as she experienced trauma from a previous pregnancy (her newborn had passed away in the NICU before the patient was able to get down there). Dora came in to introduce the patient to her night shift nurse and give report. Dora noticed the uneasiness the patient was experiencing. After Dora finished giving report, she returned to the patient's room with a wheelchair. Dora helped the patient to the chair and wheeled her to see her little girl. The patient knew by this time, Dora's shift was over. Dora never once rushed. Dora embodied love and compassion as she gave the patient the gift of seeing her sweet newborn. The patient stated that she is forever grateful for Dora.
