Wendy Myers took care of me on the night shift when I was hospitalized at UW Hospital recently. Wendy provided a level of detail to professional care that was so appreciated. It is hard to be awakened throughout the night to check vital signs, administer medications, etc. but I can say that Wendy made her visits something to feel good about in the scary night world of the hospital.
She provided reassurance that she was there to take care of me and that the caring concern was genuine. She was patient and kind when my alarms would go off (usually because I pulled on the Sp02 finger cuff) and was respectful of the many procedures, blood draws, and medications given in the stomach (not much fun). She made it all bearable because she was there to support me and help me maintain a sense of control in and out of control situation for me. She always treated me with respect and kindness.
I cannot explain the emotional bond between nurse and patient, but when I was discharged it was as though I were leaving family behind going out into the world without their daily attention and care. I was reassured that if I had any questions, I was just a phone call away from connecting with the Heart Failure team.
