In July of this year, I was involved in a very serious accident. I spent a month in the ICU, a couple of those weeks I do not even remember due to being sedated. Once I woke up, I was extremely confused, sad, and in a lot of pain. Amber was my night nurse and is definitely one of the reasons that I made it through those awful nights. I have three children and was missing them terribly. Amber always allowed me to cry on her shoulder and talked me through all of my mini-break downs. I was not just a person that she had to look after. I felt like she really cared about me. One of the nights was especially rough for me. I was in so much pain yet wanted to go home so badly.
To cheer me up, Amber offered to help me get cleaned up. She took the time to help me wash my hair and body and change into clean everything. My hair was a tangled mess from lying in bed for so long and she took the time to gently comb it out for me. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the love and respect that she showed me. She understood that there wasn't a lot that could be done to keep me from missing my kids, but that if I was a little more comfortable physically that it may help me emotionally. Honestly, I really looked forward to Amber being my nurse at night. She was always right there when I pushed the call button. My medication was never late. She also knew just when I needed a cherry Popsicle (my favorite). Amber is an incredible nurse and absolutely deserves to be recognized. If it weren't for her I wouldn't have been able to emotionally survive as well as I did.
