Willy is an excellent bedside nurse and an outstanding charge nurse of a busy intensive care unit. Each time she takes charge, no matter how high the patient acuity is, with limited staffing, she ensures safety and quality delivery of nursing care. She is very organized and keeps herself calm amidst chaotic situations. She is not afraid of addressing issues with the support staff, the nurses, and even the physicians. She communicates well with the supervisors. She facilitates patient flow from the ED and from other departments. In addition, she is involved with many initiatives. Previously, she was involved with the CAUTI Committee. Her suggestion regarding the use of "Reliafit" condom catheters was adopted by the hospital. Currently, she is leading the Progressive Mobility Committee. Through this initiative, she has taught nurses on thenursing care strategies that can be implemented with patients with different levels of immobility. She has monitored nurses' compliance with this initiative. She also did poster presentations regarding "Progressive Mobility" at the Advanced Nursing Conference sponsored by Drexel University in Philadelphia and at the University of the Philippines Alumni Association Conference in New York City. In April, she will be presenting again at the NICHE Conference in Chicago. Willie is an involved staff nurse with patient care initiatives. In fact, she participated actively as well during the Magnet visit. We strongly nominate Willy for this prestigious award. She truly deserves it!
