I worked with Bryan this past weekend. We were asked to go up and talk with a patient on 8Tower because he was not wanting to have an EGD procedure done. This patient had mental health issues and was very paranoid. His durable power of attorney had signed the consent giving permission. He was very agitated and said for me to get out because he did not like women. I spoke with Bryan and had him go into the room alone while I waited outside the door. Bryan sat down next to him and in a kind and compassionate voice was able to have a conversation offering reassurance and building enough trust with this patient to have him consent to go on down to surgery to complete the procedure. Bryan stayed at the head of the bed and talked with him in a calm and compassionate voice. Thanks to Bryan for helping this mentally ill patient get through a procedure.
