I was admitted with new GVHD of the lungs. Maureen's compassion was evident from the first 5 minutes. She sat and listened to my frustrations. I was so comfortable that I began telling her about myself. We had so much in common.
Maureen just connected with me. Results of my CT of the lungs had an incidental finding of something in my breast. Since my Aunt died of breast cancer, I was very focused on getting answers. Maureen continually advocated for me. I ended up getting an MRI and naturally it was late on Friday so I was not given any results that day. On Saturday, Maureen was doing her rounds and advocated for me again. The Doctor came in and said they would be referring me to a breast surgeon. Even though I am also an RN in Syracuse, once you are a patient, you need someone like Maureen who will show great professionalism and empathy. I honestly felt safe and knew she was advocating for me every day. Maureen is an extraordinary nurse who is deserving of the DAISY Award!
